Peabody Care to Work project
Peabody is the lead partner in a new London ESF programme called Care to Work, which offers free training and qualifications, work placements and employment support to those who want to start a career in the Health and Social Care sector. This could be a wide range of jobs, such as a Support Worker in a care home, a Care Assistant or a Community Development Worker. Peabody are responsible for the overall management of the £900k London Development Agency contract and will run the programme in conjunction with our delivery partner St Mungo's and through a range of key organisations and employers.
The project has targets for recruitment of beneficiaries, skills development (Skills for Life and Health and Social Care NVQ), beneficiaries into employment (incl sustained employment after six months).
Peabody are seeking work placements for beneficiaries in a health and social care related environment. Where appropriate can you organisation provide work placements and if so how many and how long the placements? Where appropriate can your organisation provide referrals to employers?

Progression from the Advanced Level Diploma in SHD
The Diploma in Society, Health and Development (SHD) are holding a discussion forum in the Park Inn London, Russell Square on 25th November. The topic of focus will be issues relating to progression from the Diploma in SHD into Higher Education. The forum will demonstrate examples of innovative practice developed for learners and for progression routes from the Diploma in Society Health and Development.

Important events for deliverers of the Diploma in SHD
The Diploma Development Partnership for SHD is working in partnership with the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust to ensure that those teaching the Diploma in SHD have the knowledge and skills to ensure effective and engaging teaching and learning. Teachers need practical solutions for use in delivery of the Diploma – with this in mind, and in response to requests from providers, a number of one-day interactive events have been designed.
Workshops on offer:
• Inside the Diploma – for those new to the Diploma
• Inside the workplace – Community Justice
• Diploma Development Partnership – key messages
• Lessons learned – taking practice forward
These workshops will take place in Manchester on November 3rd (Manchester United FC), in London on November 12th (Park Inn, Russell Square), and in Bristol on November 18th (Grand Thistle Hotel). For more information, and to register for these events please see the events flyer.
FREE ILM Level 3 and level 4 courses
Tribal Group are offering free training for ILM level 3 and level 4 courses. The dates for the next ILM level 3 course are 11th November, 18th November, 25th November, 3rd December and 9th December.

Working to make Valuing People Now happen in London and the South East

Dignity in Practice in Adult Health & Social Care
Date: 20th November 2009

On this much debated current topic, how are we dealing with the complexities of dignity in practice in all aspects of health and social care for Londoners? This timely event provides an opportunity to explore the challenges of practising dignity in health and social care. The event will raise awareness about why dignity in care matters; highlight dignity issues in different settings and for different client groups and communities; and facilitate discussion on dignity issues in key policy areas across health and social care sectors to develop action points to influence good practice. - The End of Life Strategy – what does it mean for social care providers

This workshop will help attendees understand what the strategy means for care providers, the aims and quality indicators of the strategy, how the strategy fits with person centred care and the dementia strategy, and what Skills for Care provide to assist employers with workforce development.

- The Dementia Strategy – what does it mean for social care providers

This workshop will help attendees understand the key skills of the strategy, the meaning of strategy for care providers, in various care services, and identify training needs and resources.Barbara Pointon (Alzheimer's campaigner) will facilitate part of this workshop; speaking about her personal experience in supporting someone with dementia.
